Caitlin’s Story
Caitlin’s story begins in Germany, where she was adopted into a loving family. From an early age, she brought joy and light to everyone around her. Her parents noticed she wasn’t meeting certain developmental milestones, but Caitlin has always met challenges with determination and a willingness to grow. Today, she’s thriving—actively involved in CASS Academy, volunteering through CASS Cares, and working at her local YMCA. With the support of her family, friends, and the community at CASS Housing, Caitlin continues to write her own story—and her future is full of possibility.
Cash’s Story
Cash is a devoted son, caring brother, loyal friend, and determined student. Growing up, he loved books, the outdoors, and time with family. Known for his hard work and kind heart, he’s brought his family deep pride and joy. As he got older, his parents noticed he wasn’t progressing alongside his peers. After seeking answers, they learned that Cash is autistic and has an extra chromosome—clarity that brought both understanding and uncertainty. Then one day, his mom found the CASS Housing website, and with it, a renewed sense of hope for Cash’s future.
Ben’s Story
“We thankfully mark March 2, 2024, as Independence Day in our family. That is the day our son Ben, then 24, moved into an independent living home operated by CASS Housing here in Fort Wayne. Ben lives with life-long developmental disabilities. Through CASS, we have seen our son achieve a level of self-direction and relational maturity that has given us – and him! – great joy.
Over the past year, we have noticed Ben’s growth in this supported independence environment.
Living with parents, particularly as a young adult during the pandemic, was isolating; developing friendships was difficult for Ben. He has now connected with several other individuals at CASS Housing and has made two friends outside of the CASS community who share his hobbies.” – Mike Sims & Beth Nygaard, CASS Parents
